Establishing Tone and Context in Blog Posts

Bryan Petty and I have been engaged in a very interesting exchange over at his blog on the topic of tone and context in blog posts. How do you communicate the fact that something that you've written was written in jest? What's the potential danger of your intentions being mis-read by someone who can't see that your tongue was firmly implanted in your cheek when you were writing?
