MSSU is blessed with KXMS, a first-class and very professional radio station which brings classical music and information to the four states community. But what about a station that gives students a chance to play a variety of music and develop their own programming ideas?
In the past, this might have been a very difficult and expensive undertaking, requiring a professional studio, transmitters, and a costly FCC licence, but now thanks to the internet and streaming media, student "webcasting" is realistic and cost-effective way to give students a voice.
My recent interview with The Chart on student webcasting has prompted lots of interest amongst Honors students in getting a student webcast station off the ground. Honors freshman Tim Shelhamer is ready to organize a student group to research and lobby for an MSSU student station.
